VDIS was established in the year 1973 by Dr A.V. Mehta. Nearly four decades have passed since then and VDIS is achieving new heights everyday. The little candle that was lit by Dr. Mehta has become a guiding force to many Intellectually Disabled children and their parents. The success of VDIS is attributed to a very dedicated staff working hard under the able leadership of Dr. Hemlata Dhoot with all their love and care to enrich the lives of these children. Looking back, there is one very important aspect to smooth functioning of VDIS that deserves a special mention; the dedicated donors who have stood by our cause through all these years and bestowed us with their faith, trust and donations and never questioned our sincerity to the cause. It is the desire of these few men to do good and their kindness that has resulted in helping these disabled children find their place in society. It gives us immense pride and satisfaction to see that the new team leading VDIS comprises of equally competent members, all sincere and dedicated and in sync with Dr. Mehta’s vision. Wishing every disabled child a sheltered life of peace, dignity, love and care.

A vision see by Dr. A V Mehta, his friends and well wishers as V D Indian Society for MC. It has grown into a full-fledged garden with the help of Dagara family, dedicated teachers, parents, full time passionate devotion of Dr. A V Mehta to school and ever supporting society. But the dream is yet to be fulfilled. There are no limitations to the flight of dream. Our targets are to provide ongoing better services, training and rehabilitation at par with global standards to mentally challenged individuals, support to their family and equipping teachers with better modalities of training. We also need to focus on some cases of prevention of mental retardation and also a dream to provide some curative treatment in some individuals. Dr. A.V Mehta and some of his team members are no longer with us. But the new team of young and enthusiastic managing committee members will continue to strive to fulfil the dream

Respected Donors & Well- Wishers, Special needs inspires you to be a special kind of person. Dr. A.V.Mehta’s V.D.Indian Society for M.R. (Mentally Challenged) was established in the year 1973. The mission of the institute is to train the mentally challenged individual to live a dignified life. We have many specialized & scientific programs designed & executed by a specially trained staff, under the guidance of Dr. A.V. Mehta. These programs are very effective in training of mentally challenged, ADHD, Autistic, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Disabilities, Slow Learner & Learning Disabled children. Therefore special educators have brought hope, strength & joy in the life of more than thousands of special children. The striking feature of our training program is to focus on the ability of the child & not the disability. We also give training of ‘one-skill development’ which helps in empowering & mainstreaming them in the society. The result is the BIG Wonder programme, International / National achievement in sports. Educational achievements, rehabilitation & production of BIG Wonder products. For education a special child’s appeal is ‘’if I cannot learn the way you teach me…will you teach me the way I can learn’’ And this is the motto of our programme. Still we have a long way to go. Therefore, we look forward to your help & support in this humanitarian work. The past year and half have been most unprecedented. COVID stagnated the world. VDIS too faced difficult times and is grappling with the situation. Children bore the brunt of being away from school and indirectly the progress of each child became slower or negligible. Parents of special children faced trouble keeping the children indoors in lockdown, making them wear masks and running the fear of COVID with a challenged child. However through all these tough times has emerged a new normal. Online schooling, Teachers, staff, parents & students adapting and learning this new way of life. It’s all been a tangent road never traveled. I congratulate the entire staff of VDIS for adapting whole heartedly and imbibing the new technologies and online platform of teaching and Parents for being our backbone in the journey. Online platform of education has created a global classroom and helped special children in remote and interior regions thus creating a broader spectrum of outreach . Today thousands of special children are learning through free online portal of VDIS. Another silver lining through these tough times has been our donors who stood by us sincerely and came forth with more help than ever before, aiding us repair and upgrade the much needed school infrastructure during this lockdown.
